What Is The Church?

Come, Come, Come, To the Church in the Wildwood

Church in the WildwoodA soothing song and reminiscently painted with words of that comforting place of childhood… That place where we often look back at when we are tagged with an unaccountable work load, and heavy and overwhelming duties of life.

Many groups have sung it, but those soft lyrics and melody presented by Andy Griffith and Don Knotts are exactly the style of song I imagine goes along with the thoughts. Soft. Soothing. Strumming. Calming the fevered brow of the frantic.

If I could just go back to a simpler time…

But that is seldom the case. We are so stinking busy and church has become a business…

Read the history of the song here.

 Church in the Wildwood

There’s a church in the valley by the wildwood
No lovelier place in the dale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

(Oh, come, come, come, come) Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the dale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the dale

How sweet on a clear Sabbath morning
To listen to the clear ringing bells
Its tones so sweetly are calling
Oh come to the church in the vale

There, close by the church in the valley
Lies one that I loved so well
She sleeps, sweetly sleeps, ‘neath the willow
Disturb not her rest in the vale
