Good News, Bad News

We’ve all heard the options…

Good News Bad NewsI have good news and bad news. Which do you want first?

Most seem to go for the bad news because they hope that the good news will outweigh the bad.

In the current news cycle, however, it seems like all we hear first is Bad News, from the beginning to the ending. Good news never seems to show up, or, if it does then it’s often drivel and really deserves none of our attention.

Here’s what you have to do… Go Look For It!

On the other hand I do not want to hear just good news. Most presentation of good is attempting to draw a tear or sensitive spirit out of the hearer. Yet, bad news seems to give us the hint of depravity and negativeness this world is going through and we generally cringe with the reporting.

Still, we all hope that better news exists at the end of the negative cycle!

Life styles, drugs, war, devastation, disease, famine, terrorism… It seems like all that affects us so strongly is nothing but Bad News. Is there any Good? Sure. But you have to sift for it. You have to know where to look for it. You have to be in control of where you chose to pay attention.

I have several news apps that collect the news from sources around the globe, and across the nation. Every so often I change the settings to drop a specific news source because all they seem to promote are the doom and gloom events.

The same is true for anything we feed on!

When you are paying attention to some source, and I don’t care if it’s the radio, TV, internet, magazine or newspaper… I don’t even care if it’s some social media source. If you will pay attention to what it being shared, whether by what has your attention, or what is being advertised, I suspect you will find who is funding your entertainment.

Open your eyes and ears to the source of your entertainment/news and I suspect you will start narrowing your options to what you focus on. We are what we promote, which is another way of saying we are what we ingest. Intake bad news, and all you can talk about … Well, you get the picture.

The Apostle Paul shared this thought to the churches in Corinth.

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.

(2 Corinthians 4:6-10 ESV)

You need to focus on removing the channels of your life that shroud the Good News with bad.  Okay? Even with the treasure of light in our tender frames made of breakable clay, we must let the light shine by not being crushed, driven to despair, feeling forsaken, and definitely not destroyed! No matter the news….

You are the Good News representatives to this darkened world that gushes only the negative…. Remember that… This is a lesson I have to re-teach to myself, and learn every single day.
