It Happens Every Year

About this same time, too!

BirdsThis is when our birds start preparing to leave the nest. Momma and Poppa have been steadily feeding and nurturing these little ones, and they are more inquisitive about the outside world. Our habit has been to see the birds in their nest one day, then the next day they are flying – never to go home again.

Then, within a week they leave our turf… A sad week…

I think this week is here.

On the flip side, we have been feeding our hummingbirds for a number of years. Today they have been bouncing around the feeder and chasing each other through the trees.

Only 3 inches long, they fly a constant speed of around 30 mph, but can attain speeds of 60 mph…

This got me to thinking about their coordination. Zipping through the trees and darting around branches, trunks, and other dangers, they have an insane ability to see instantly what is in their way – program an alternate route – and turn quickly to the new direction.

All faster than we can seeming get our names out to each other in an introduction!

Their eyes must be working correctly in order to stay out of trouble! Jesus even gives a hint about this.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!’  (Mat 6:22-23 ESV)

I think we should work on keeping our eyes healthy. They warn us of dangers, as much as they show the blessings that surround us.

We often see the green fields over the fence and think all is better else where, but there are hidden dangers everywhere. Without good eyesight you will miss the snares!

In the same way of looking elsewhere, we seem to miss the blessings of home. How joyful it is to enjoy those things that your hard work has provided, and to know the blessing you need to protect. Those little kids running around your feel – you should pray for good eyesight! Be like the watchman on the wall who is constantly looking out for danger.

But knowing danger without warning is like knowing your checking account is in the red and doing nothing to bring it back into balance.

How’s your eye health today? Praying for you…
