Okay… Election day is here.
Someone will win. Someone will lose. Each side will feel either victory and happiness, or loss and sadness. I’ve said it before, if someone does not have a full head of steam winning a major majority of the voters, then upwards of half the nation is disenfranchised.
The real winners and losers are the voters and the citizens who must live with the results till the next election cycle.
Through the years we have seen close elections in all kinds of areas, whether it’s who gets a position on the job, or who gets chosen to take out the trash. There are a ton of people who feel loss…every single day.
When it comes to politics I really enjoy a definition from a radio king nearly 20 years ago. He’s never been my favorite, nor have I listened to him more than 10 minutes during all this time… But driving back to Nevada from Arizona, late at night and hunting for an AM radio station I heard a voice saying:
Politics. We have to break the word down just like we do in the Bible with Hebrew and Greek. “Poli-” means many, and “tics” are blood sucking creatures.
Okay… Okay… It was Rush Limbaugh. Forgive me!
Now, I know our elected leaders have a huge job to lead as their electorate requires, but their other main job is to focus on getting reelected. Whether it’s a 2, 4, or 6 year term, in the back of their mind they always know their job is to STAY in office. Much of what they know is their job can seldom get accomplished in a single season of office.
I understand that, and if they are doing a good job then we want them to continue their work…
Before I say what I want to say, let me first tell you that it is your duty and privilege to vote. Find something you can be happy to spend your vote for, and then stand up and vote. “If you don’t vote, then you can’t complain.”
However, before you get so frustrated about the outcome, think about these scriptures that are upwards of several thousand years old.
- But God is the Judge: He puts down one, And exalts another. (Psalms 75:7 NKJV)
- Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding. (Daniel 2:20-21 NKJV)
- Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. (Romans 13:1-3 NKJV)
- Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. (Hebrews 13:17 NKJV)
I’m not taking anything out of perspective here, but it is obvious to me that for thousands of years God has been telling us that He’s in control, and we are to be in obedience to those that have higher authority. But the main thought is that first and foremost we are accountable to his rule first and foremost, because He has the highest authority. And living in this world that has rejected him we are to be trustworthy ambassadors for Him.
Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:20 NKJV)
We are representatives of Christ… We understand this within our ranks, but did you know that the world judges us by our speech, actions and lives.
Let’s keep ourselves clean and pure from the taint of this world, else our witness as an ambassador will be tarnished.
Let the tic’s fall where they may. There are many of them.
